Quilting 101

I always have some kind of creative obsession going on. Lately it's quilting. I'd made a couple of rag quilts before so I made another one of those for DD2 because I had never made one for her (the older two kids each have one made from denim and pieces of their baby receiving blankets). When I found the flannel for hers online, I just HAD to have it. I wish I had gotten more though. It is the perfect size for her but is pretty small and I couldn't give it a regular pattern like I had originally wanted to.
The backside isn't as pretty, but is very cuddly!
While I was making the rag quilt, the other two kids wanted me to make them something too. I was itching to try a real quilt, so I made one for DS. It ended up being about 4'x5' so I was able to do all of the top stitching on my machine. I love it!
I'll be making DD1 a quilt of her own next month. The fabric I want isn't available until February so I can't start until then. You can see it here. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Sooooo much catching up!

One of my favorite Christmas memories this year was watching DD2's preschool performance. It was a riot! It was at a dance studio so there were a lot of mirrors. DD was placed at the end of the row and she quickly became fascinated with watching herself in the mirror. DD1 helped me film this, so sorry for the camera being dropped half way through the video (that part was actually my fault). We laughed and laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing!
If anyone can tell me how to turn this video so it's right-side-up, please tell me!

I also wanted to post some Christmas pictures--better late than never!
Santa left this cute toy for DD. He also almost finished off the cookies we left him. He left the kids a note and told them about meeting Smuckers (who came to eat the cookie crumbs his elves dropped on the floor). Santa also explained that he knew DD1 wanted a cell phone and he would consider bringing her one when she is older : )
Barbies for the girls from Nanna!
And Bitty twin dolls from G&G Mundy.....
I got a picture of them with thier "twins" tonight. Notice DD2's teeth! She actually looks pretty cute with the missing teeth!

DS got video games, a metal erector set (fun for him AND Daddy!), and some cool Playmobil pirate sets.

It was a great day! It was snowing out so we waited until the next day to go see Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. We really liked it.

I'll have to post again soon with pictures of my new craft obsession---quilting! I already made DD2 a rag quilt and I'm almost done with DS's traditional quilt. Next month I'll make one for DD1--the fabric I want won't be released until February.

Feeling Sad : (

Yesterday poor DD2 fell down the stairs. Poor thing! She was ok except for a tooth that she had bumped. It had moved back from its original position and it bled some. Unfortunately, it continued a slow bleed all through the day and night. It looked pretty gross this morning. I took her to the dentist today. They took an x-ray and it showed that the root was broken. The tooth needed to be removed. The dentist said that in the case of removing a front baby tooth, it was best to remove both. I think he said that it was best for the alignment of the other teeth and the permanent ones coming in later. Here are her teeth. You can totally see that the roots were broken off of the one tooth: (SORRY--IT'S GROSS)Now I just feel horrible! After watching her go through that and then wondering if I should have gotten a second opinion, I just feel sick. I can't really cry about it because the kids are all here and I don't want them to worry. I've really liked him as a dentist and have no reason not to trust his opinion. It was just such a whirlwind and I didn't really expect to have to have even one tooth pulled. Now I'm worried about speech development and all kinds of things. Ugh. I wish DH was home, even though he can't really do anything. It would just be good to have him here.

On a happier note, my final Christmas present. I love it!

The Rest of the Family Photos

I guess I missed the boat on printing pictures of Christmas. Oops! I'll have to do it so that it will be in next year's book.
So, here are the rest of our family pictures. I want the grandparents to see them so that I can send them prints, and I figured this was the easiest way to do it! The photographer gave me a cd with my top 10 pictures on it. I am not crazy about the way I look in this first one, but trying to get all 5 of us to look good in the same picture is near impossible.
DD1 lost two bottom teeth this week! She looks so cute with the space in her teeth and the slight difference it makes in the way she sounds. I always get nostalgic looking at the first teeny-weeny teeth they loose. Awwww.....
